Most people guess their screen time low. Where to find the real number on iPhone and Android, which figures matter, and what to do with them.

Most people guess their screen time low. Here’s how to find the real number, and how to read it.

iPhone

  1. Settings, then Screen Time.
  2. Tap See All App & Website Activity. (On iOS 27, tap the Daily Average chart.)
  3. Switch between Day and Week.

What to look at:

  • Daily average: your headline number.
  • Most used: which apps actually take the time.
  • Pickups: how many times you picked up your phone, and which app you opened first.
  • Notifications: which apps pull you back in.

Android

  1. Settings, then Digital Wellbeing & parental controls.
  2. The chart shows today’s screen time. Tap it for app-by-app detail.
  3. Switch between screen time, unlocks and notifications.

How to read it

  • Don’t panic about the total. Maps, music and messaging all count. Focus on the apps you didn’t mean to use.
  • Look at pickups. Often the problem isn’t long sessions but constant checking.
  • Compare weeks, not days. One bad day is normal.

What next?

Pick one app to cut, set a limit, and check again next week. If you want accountability, share your weekly number with a friend (here’s how to ask one), or join a Snitch group where everyone can see how the group’s doing.
